A Walk In The Park.
-
Change Your Habits.
Some people believe a strict regime and a structured approach is the way to go. Discipline is necessary if there is going to be improvement. No pain no gain. Getting fit is a serious business. You are not here to enjoy yourself!
But exercise doesn’t need to be tough, taxing and regimented. You can gradually change your habits and make being healthy a part of your life. Not something to be regarded as a necessary evil but instead something that comes naturally.
-
Walk The Dog.
If you have a dog there is nothing more natural than taking it out for a walk. The walk could be through the streets, but why not savour the clean air and peaceful surroundings of a park or other green space.
Not only is this good for your physical health, it’s great for your mental health too. Spend a little time thinking about something other than work or personal issues. Clear the mind and feel better for it.
-
Nutrition.
If you overeat or over drink your body is working harder to break everything down. There is more stress on the body and as we age our metabolisms slow and it becomes harder to balance calories in and calories out. But you don’t need to go mad and cut everything out. Simple habit changes like eating a bit less, or taking smaller portions can work really well. You could put the alcohol aside for a few days? It will make it taste all the better when the time comes.
-
Advance.
And perhaps your walk will become part walk, part jog and then part run? Maybe you will cycle or even think about swimming outside - so good for your physical and mental state of mind! Try a few resistance workouts. Lifting weights isn't everyone’s cup of tea but resistance exercise does reap real benefits, especially in later life. And don't forget to stretch. There are great physical and mental gains to be made.
